Pat is a well known Woodburner, carver and artist. Alice is the manufacturer of the Nibsburner Woodburning Systems. Alice has taught in CO, AZ, CA & NE. Many patterns, projects, and reasonably priced bass wood blanks will be available to choose from. Tools Required: Woodburner. Relief Carving - John will be teaching the art of medium relief carving. A minimum of two days is suggested. Students may take more if they desire. All levels of experience in carving are welcome. John will have a variety of subject matter to choose from, including animals, architecture, and santas. GARGAC, MARK

 


Frontiersman Mask - Mark Gargac nationally known wood carver and instructor from Broomfield, CO specializes in carving faces in all types of wood. His subject matters range from Frontiersmen and Mountain Men, Cowboys and Indians, wizards, gnomes, elves and Santa's. Stylized with a slight hint of exaggerated realism to include intricate facial detailing has been his final desired result in his most recent carvings to date. One of the projects he has newly created for this year's Rendezvous is carving a Frontiersman mask from a basswood rough out. Carvers will have the option to choose from one of three rough out masks measuring approximately 12" x 7" x 4" in depth. A brief description of facial anatomy and the placement and measurements of the facial features on your mask will be presented before carving begins. Mark's emphasis for the class will be on assisting each carver in obtaining an enjoyable experience in carving faces and to hopefully aid each with a satisfying end result in their wood carving project at the 2013 Rendezvous. Tools Required: Bring all the sharp tools you have. Each carver will be carving off of Instructor supplied carving vices and carving benches that seat 4 carvers per bench. He uses tools mainly with the #5, #7 and #9 sweeps. Small micro tools ranging from 2 - 5 mm and a medium to large V Tool. A couple of sharp knives will also be useful. Indian Bust with Full Headdress - The second project created solely, and specifically for the 2013 Wood Carvers Rendezvous and currently the Instructor's favorite to carve is the Native American Indian Bust adorning a stylistically carved full headdress and realistically carved face. This was a challenging design to execute and he was very satisfied with the end result when finished with carving the rough out. The basswood rough out measures approximately 12" x 7" x 5" in depth. " I feel carvers taking this class will have a lot of fun in adding details of their own to this carving." This carving opens many possibilities for carvers in expanding their carving creativity level. Emphasis in the class will be on assisting each carver in obtaining an enjoyable experience in carving faces and to hopefully aid in creating a satisfying final result for each carver. Chip Carving - Carolyn has been a professional artist for many years, studying art in college, teaching art in the public school system, and having her original water colors in galleries across Texas. She started carving in 2000 and fell in love with chip carving. She now teaches chip carving in spring and fall at Texas Woodcarvers Guild, Creede Woodcarvers Rendezvous, Ozark Woodcarving Seminar, Coastal Bend Woodcarving Seminar and War Eagle Woodcarving Seminar. She is also the chip carving instructor for www.carvinonline.com. Carolyn will be offering one day classes with a variety of projects to choose from. Pronghorn & Fishing Grizzle - Hoyt been carving for 15 years and teaching for 5 years. This will be his third year at Creede. I have carvings in collections throughout the U.S.A. He will have the same projects as the past year plus a new project to be announced later. According to carving ability, you will be able to end the class with a finished project. The Pronghorn Antelope has been a very popular project, and will be available again. The new project will feature an animal that has not been done at Creede for at least three years. He works to make my classes relaxing and fun for everybody. Hopefully you will pick up some new tricks, and leave with a project you will be proud of. JACKSON, DENNY

Walking Stick Flute - Denny comes from LaVista, NE. He has been carving for over 15 years, and has been very active in the Mid-America Woodcarvers Association, for the past 10 years. Over the past several years his interest in the Native American Flute has enabled him to combine the haunting sounds of the flute with a walking stick. This will be a two day class, requiring no experience. The first day will consist of learning the basics of flute construction, by making a small practice flute, and then advancing to the walking stick. The second day students will finish assembling the flute, if necessary, and then tune, decorate, and learn to play the flute. Bring any small designs you want to transfer to your stick. He will have designs also. He will supply the blanks and all other materials. This is a fun class, so bring a smile too. LA BELLE, ALANA Woodburned Kaleidoscopes - Alana returns to woodburn her round basswood kaleidoscope tubes with a new and improved mirror system and glass air cell. You will have a choice of designs to wood burn on the scope (examples: Nativity Scene, Calla Lilies, Transportation Scene, etc.) You will also have the option to paint the design. Some paints will be available. The tube will be predrilled. The eye piece, mirrors and cell will be provided and assembled in class. He really enjoys his instructing and the students will have fun while learning. Dan has developed some of his own techniques over the years and loves to share them with you. Learn how to layout and carve a Santa head on any square basswood blank. "We'll start simple and then add complexity to your comfort level." Paul has been carving and teaching classes for close to 20 years. You'll appreciate his instructional style from both technical and creative angles. He is a member of the International Association of Caricature Artists (ISCA) and has been a driving force in woodcarving in Northern Colorado. Through enlightening visual examples and demonstrations, learn the keys to carving dramatic and engaging eyes. Both realistic and caricature styles will be studied. Cliff Dwelling in Cottonwood Bark - Tom will teach 4 one day classes. Tom's project is Cliff Dwellings in Cottonwood Bark and will be 10" - 14" long. The Cliff Dwellings will be of Mesa Verde and are carved on the inside of the bark, like deep relief. Bark will be provided. Little People - John is returning again to teach Little People at Creede. He's carved over a thousand and taught many people to carve them while teaching the safety reasons of doing the steps in that manner. The Little People measure 1 x 1 x 2 inches and are carved in the Jack Price style. Many examples will be available at class time, such as farmers, bankers, Santa Claus and firemen. Everyone taking the class will be given a go-by carving to keep for future use. Each carving will be fully painted so you will have a go-by for painting as well. Want to use the Little People in a display situation such as building a house, sidewalk superintendent, etc. I will have examples of multi - situations or scenes for ideas, for example 4 or 5 hobos standing around a burning barrel keeping warm. Carving and Painting Santa - Adair and Patty live in Lockhart, TX when they are home from traveling. Adair teaches seminars in carving Santa's in Texas, Arkansas, and Colorado throughout the year. In this five day workshop, Adair will teach carving a Santa from a choice of rough outs for the first three days. Patty will teach painting the finished Santa in the last two days. If a student wants a spouse to do their painting, the spouse can take their place. All supplies for painting the Santa will be provided. Scrimshaw - Patty has been teaching workshops for woodcarvers since 2002 after she retired from teaching high school art for 26 years. Patty will teach a one day class where students learn to scratch a design on plexiglass using a pattern. The scratches are filled with oil paint. Scrimshaw is used on a variety of items as pendants, bone, ivory, and knife handles. All tools necessary are provided in class except a good light and magnifier. Adult Beginning Carving - Tom returns from Austin, TX , continuing his valuable service Instructing a 2 day Beginners Carving class. He covers the safety issues involved in carving, followed by basic knife cuts, reading wood grain direction, use of V tools and U gouges, etc. Students will carve a thumb or finger (out of wood), a snake, and a project of their choice on day one. SARFF, TOM: Youth Beginning Carving (10 or older and must be supervised/accompanied by and adult) - This one day class covers the safety issues involved with carving, followed by basic knife cuts, reading wood grain direction, use of V tools and U gouges, etc. Students will carve a thumb or finger (out of wood), a snake, and a project of their choice. Kachina Doll Madem - Harry has been carving Kachinas for 5 years. He has been teaching them at the Texas Woodcarvers Guild. The classes are interesting and informative. He provides the blank, paints, brushes and a booklet with instructions and illustrations. Normally Kachinas are carved from cotton wood root. Gouge Chip Carved Kaleidoscope - You will carve on an octagonal, maple wood kaleidoscope with improved mirror system and oil cell -. You will have a choice of designs to carve on the scope. The tube will be predrilled. The eye piece, mirrors and cell will be provided and assembled in class. Diana will introduce you to gouge chip carving as a method to decorate the tube. A provided mallet will be used with your palm tools for the vertical cuts. A practice piece will be provided. Palm Tools required: Gouges -- #9 (1/4"); #9 (3/8"); #7 (5/8") #4 (5/32"); Veiners #2 (9/64");#1 (1/8"); Old Texas Woodcarvers will have these available. Bring what you have. Different patterns use a different number of tools. Also bring a light, power strip or extension cord, and magnifier. Caricatures - Dave and Michele return to Creede from Scottsdale, AZ. A nationally known caricature carver, instructor and author, Dave is a founding member of CCA. Dave and Michele will teach together this year. Any subject, any day, carver's choice. Besides a completed UNSANDED cleanly carved Santa, students should bring a paint water bucket, paper palette pad, paper towels, linseed oil, 1" sponge brush, ½" oval wash by Leon Cornell, #3-5 round brush, a #00 script liner - long thin bristles for striping.
